    When the sonnet breaks into eleven syllables “Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling,” is this just to emphasize the clumsiness of the soldiers? “And towards our distant rest began to trudge.” and in this case the slowness and fatigue. – Soren
