Titus Andronicus

English Literature: Shakespeare and the Literary Heritage

As is outlined in the year plan, this term is all about the study of a Shakespearian play and the comparison of it with another text from the English Literary Heritage. We have started this project off with a bang with our first visit from Chris from the Royal Shakespeare Company who took everyone through the very complex plot of the play in a dynamic Friday afternoon lesson. As part of this project we will be working with Chris and a film maker Sam to build a short film based on a scene from Titus Andronicus. It’s a very exciting opportunity which is going to culminate in a trip to Stratford upon Avon to see the play live on stage.

The formal conclusion of this project will be a controlled assessment that asks the students to compare the Shakespearian play with another text or texts from the literary heritage. The grade from this will comprise 40% of the final grade for their English Literature GCSE – the rest will come from the two examinations for English Literature in July.
